(Caution: DMV rant inside)

So this morning I decided that I wanted to go get one of my motorcycles re-registerd (its been non-op for about a year). I woke up early, grabbed my title and insurance, and drove to the DMV. I arrived 45 minutes before the DMV opened, only to find a line that wrapped around 3 sides of the building had already formed.

Was there a sale on registration cost this weekend only???

Maybe a buy one, get one free on drivers license photos?

No.

As it turns out, the state of Nevada has recently become "compliant" with a regulation known as " !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ". This means that as a NV resident, if you don't go get your "Real ID", you can't board a plane. To get your "Real ID", one must show up to the DMV with your current ID, as well as a slew of other paperwork, including, but not limited to: your birth certificate, your original social security card, proof of residence, a list of all your relatives, a vile of blood from your first born child, and cash.

Once you've paid uncle sam, he will send you a new ID that looks exactly like your old ID except it now has a star on the corner so they know it really, really is you.

So after waiting for about an hour after they opened the doors, I was not even inside the building to take my number and then wait some more.

This is bullshit. I need to go to work. They should have a separate lines that say "If you're here to get F'ed in the A by uncle sam for a few dollars stand here" and another that says "If you have legitimate DMV business stand here".

Now I have to come back during the week instead of enjoying riding my motorcycle and, to top it off, I'm now both tired, and cranky, and have to go to work.

Fuck you DMV.

Oh wow, I've never had to wait more than like 15 minutes here in Indiana.

I long ago learned to never ever try the DMV on the weekend. 6 hours last time I made that mistake.

The DMV has to be the most poorly run division of our government. It's embarrassing.

They are usually pretty good. I mean they have something line 60 booths at the location I was at and theres 3 or 4 other locations in town, Just 8 or 10 people were trying to get their "real ID"

The one by me isnt half bad (as far as DMVs go) but its this whole new ID thing that is killing the process.

Around here half the locations are closed on Saturday (and they're all closed Sunday) so it's always a shit show at the open ones. 30 minutes in to out on Wed, 6 hours Sat. Plus, the line at the one closest to me is in a field next door due to occupancy code so it's double fun in the heat/cold, or rain.

VA is doing a long term phase in for RealID. I got tagged for it 5 years ago but my wife still hasn't received her notice...I guess it's to avoid an ID rush like you all are having.

I get an appointment in CA if I have to go, but AAA offices do a lot and are much better.

Just do what I do. Show up and wait for the text queue. Text the thing and go get breakfast.

In Wisconsin every DMV office in a 40 mile radius of my house is A) only open two days a a week, and B) does not handle anything with vehicles or titles, only driver's licenses. If you need something done with a title, you have to go to one of the Full Service DMV locations down in Madison, an hour's drive or more away.
